Itad is a leading international development consultancy providing advice to governments, foundations, multilateral agencies and non-profits on how to maximise the impact of their investments. We have a 35-year track record of providing our clients with the information and insight they need to make development work smarter, produce better results and improve people’s lives. Our knowledge and expertise are grouped around Practice areas including Fragile and Conflict-affected Settings (FCAS), Human Development, Inclusive Growth, Social Protection, Climate Change and Livelihoods, and Governance and Institutional Strengthening.

We are looking for a digital analyst who wants to apply their technical skills and experience to help shape and develop this growing area of our Monitoring and Evaluation offering.  In this role, you will be working with our diverse clients, using your technical expertise on machine learning, innovative technology, and a knowledge of data science to both bolster our service offering and draw meaningful conclusions from datasets.  Some of the projects you will work on will include:

  • Developing digital dashboards and evaluating digital responses to SRHR interventions necessitated by COVID-19 under the Women’s Integrated Sexual Health Programme (WISH) third party monitoring project.
  • Evaluation of the Global Challenges Research Fund. The mixed-method, theory-based evaluation deploys innovative techniques including data science and sentiment analysis.
  • Itad with our partner mWater provided digital solutions to UNICEF East Africa Regional Office to help visualize the COVID -19 WASH response in four countries.

The role

This is an exciting new role which has been developed to meet the increased need to understand and present data in innovative and creative ways and how we can use it to transform the way we undertake monitoring and evaluation.

The role will draw on combination of technical, analytical and communication skills to help develop proposals, build new partnerships, and deliver Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) services for our clients.

You will be working within multi-disciplinary teams and liaising with specialist technology partners to help them better extract, analyse and interpret data from a range of sources. You will be responsible for identifying new opportunities for our digital work and MERL Tech offer by working closely with the Business Development team, as well as building relationships in the sector to help us keep pace with this growing area of work.

A key focus will be identifying and delivering innovative internal projects aimed at developing our in-house capabilities including data analysis, visualisation and dashboards.   To support this you will proactively reach out to new and existing digital technology partners and thought leaders in the ICT4D/Merl Tech space to develop relationships and opportunities to collaborate.  This will enable you to build and maintain a network of external consultants with expertise relevant to our digital technology service offering with whom we can collaborate on projects.

You will work on projects to provide data science, digital support (or liaising with experts in this field to deliver these requirements). This might include:

  • Building algorithms in support of advanced analytics, drawing extensively on secondary data sources, to provide valuable insights for decision-makers.
  • Developing tools to analyse meaning within the text ranging from internal documents and publications to websites and social media.
  • Creating clear reports that summarise the analysis and tell a compelling narrative.
  • Assess digital data sources and data-gathering techniques and improve data collection methods, often in remote or hard to reach locations.

The Candidate

You will have a strong technical background either through your academic experience in computer science, mathematical or science-based subject or relevant work experience.   You will already have experience and be familiar with machine learning tools such as TensorFlow, Google Cloud ML Engine, Azure ML and have worked with data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau.   Alongside this you will already be working with programming languages such as C or C++, Python, JavaScript or Java.

A core strength is your exceptional communication and presentation skills which you use to explain technical approaches and concepts to team members and clients who may not understand the mechanics behind data analysis.

We also know that there are great candidates who will not fit everything we have described above, or who have important skills we have not mentioned. If that is you, please do not hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.

The role is based in our offices in Brighton & Hove (East Sussex), but we are open to you working anywhere in the UK. Travel to the office would be expected for key company and team events. You will already have the right to live and work in the UK and be able to undertake national and international travel when conditions allow.

The salary for this role is up to £50K depending on your skills and experience. We also offer a comprehensive learning and development programme, 24 days holiday plus additional time off over Christmas and a matched company pension up to 5%.

We are committed to actively promoting diversity, equality and inclusion to empower people both within our organisation and through our work. We know that employees with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences make us a more effective and innovative company and we therefore welcome and encourage applications from interested candidates regardless of age, sex, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, race, religion, or belief.
